Kelly's original motivation for acquiring sheep was land management, and a multi-purpose breed with unique fiber was very appealing. More than a simply a beautiful pasture ornament (which they are!), our sheep are helping us manage invasive weeds (spotted knapweed) and improving soil health with rotational grazing practices. Our pastures were planned with the natural community in mind by leaving edge habitats for wildlife, birds, and pollinators. Rotational grazing also benefits the fleece by keep it exceptionally clean.
Gotland sheep have been the perfect fit for our land management, and are a delight to be around - medium sized, polled, naturally short tailed, hardy, good mothers, adaptable, curious & friendly. And a bonus, Gotland fiber is simply amazing for spinning, weaving, felting, adding embellishments, and more. Kelly is connecting back to the knitting skills her grandmother taught her when she was young and adding new fiber skills. She absolutely loves to see what fiber artists create with the wool from our sheep and features a variety of project inspiration on the website as part of the "Namekagon Valley Showcase". We invite you to visit our website and online shop to browse ideas for your next fiber project!
